Experience an unforgettable city break in Bruges
Bruges’ historic city centre is rightfully listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Forget Paris and Venice — visit Bruges instead! Its cosy, romantic streets and squares are sure to awaken all your senses. Step into history at unique sites like the Beguinage, Market Square, Minnewater Park, and the Bruges canals (Reien). Admire the Flemish Primitives at the Gruuthuse Museum, or enjoy a performance at the magnificent Concertgebouw. Treat yourself to fine Belgian cuisine in one of the many excellent restaurants and sample a locally brewed beer at one of the city’s authentic breweries: De Halve Maan, Bourgogne des Flandres, or Fort Lapin.

It’s clear: in Bruges, you’ll run out of time before you run out of things to see and do.
Did you know Hotel Patritius is just a five-minute walk from the Market Square? You’ll be staying right in the heart of Bruges’ historic centre.

The Bruges Countryside – discover the beauty beyond the city
Bruges is the beating heart of the Brugse Ommeland, the picturesque region that surrounds the city. If you’d like to escape the bustle for a while, there are plenty of nearby attractions to explore — and the best way to do so is by bike. The Brugse Ommeland is well connected by a network of scenic cycle routes.

One of the highlights is the charming town of Damme, just 7 km away along the canal. It’s known for its historic treasures, beautiful landscapes, and inviting restaurants.

Did you know you can rent bikes at Hotel Patritius? It’s the perfect way to explore the region at a relaxed pace. You’ll find many inspiring routes on the Brugse Ommeland website.

Bruges: Gateway to the polders and Belgian coast
In the Middle Ages, Bruges’ close ties to the North Sea were the foundation of its economic success. Even today, the city serves as a gateway to the nearby coastal towns and open landscapes of the Flemish polders.

From Bruges, you can easily take a day trip to Ostend (30 km), Blankenberge (15 km), or De Haan (20 km). The city also has direct access to Zeebrugge (15 km), one of Europe’s largest seaports.

The Belgian coast is a delightful destination all year round — whether you want to dip your toes in the sea, sip a drink on a sunny terrace, or simply relax on the beach. Hotel Patritius makes the perfect base for your coastal escape.

Also worth visiting: Ypres and Ghent
There are many fascinating cities close to Bruges that are well worth a visit. From Hotel Patritius, they’re easy to reach by car or train.

If you’re interested in World War I history, a visit to Ypres is a must. Start at the In Flanders Fields Museum, located on the main square. Through rotating and permanent exhibitions, the museum offers a powerful insight into the Great War. Don’t miss the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, held every evening at 8:00 PM. A drive through the Westhoek region — the countryside around Ypres — reveals cemeteries and bunkers that still bear witness to the devastating impact of the war over a century ago.

Just under an hour away lies Ghent — a vibrant student city, cultural hotspot, and historic gem. Discover its impressive shopping streets, art scene, and of course, the world-famous Adoration of the Mystic Lamb by the Van Eyck brothers, recently restored to its original glory.
